The Legacy of The Shakerag Hounds
Established in 1943, Shakerag Hounds is the oldest recognized foxhunt in Georgia. Originally founded as the Atlanta Hunt Club by a group of equestrian and hunting enthusiasts at Chastain Park, the hunt was formally recognized by the Masters of Foxhounds Association in 1950.

Hunting Grounds & Facilities
Shakerag continues as a thriving hunt with excellent territories and an active hunting and social membership. Our facilities include a large Clubhouse, kennels, a barn for staff horses and a home for the professional huntsman. We breed, raise and train a pack of PennMaryDel and cross bred foxhounds who provide great sport for our members and guests as they hunt red and gray fox, coyotes and bobcat.

A Family Sport for All Ages
Foxhunting with Shakerag is a family sport, with riders from 8 to 80 riding in one of our four fields. There is a place for everyone who enjoys riding to hounds and experiencing a sport with deep traditions dating back to George Washington who hunted his hounds in the rolling hills along the Potomac River.

Season & Traditions
The Shakerag hunting season begins on Labor Day weekend with Autumn Hunting and officially opens in late October. Our season continues through mid-March, offering months of rich tradition and exhilarating sport. During the season, The Shakerag Hounds meet on Saturday’s in formal attire and Tuesday’s in ratcatcher. We welcome new faces and seasoned riders alike. The Shakerag Clubhouse
Based in Hull, Georgia—just a short drive from downtown Athens (Go Dawgs!)—Shakerag Hounds is proud to call the rolling countryside of Jackson and Madison counties home. At the heart of our community is a spacious clubhouse where members, family, and friends gather to unwind, connect, and celebrate the spirit of the hunt. Whether you're enjoying a post-ride breakfast, sharing stories by the fire, or simply soaking in the camaraderie, the Shakerag clubhouse is more than just a meeting place—it's where lasting memories and lifelong friendships are made.
